CITY OF BANGOR
COUNCIL MEETING
JANUARY 15, 2001

  

MAYOR GEORGE SINK CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AT 7:00 P.M.

 ROLL CALL:  Present were Mayor George Sink and Council Members Barbara Johnson, Alice Kriesten, Richard Sutherby and Phil Wiles.  Denise Foot and Norm Johnson were excused.

 APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Phil Wiles made a motion to accept the minutes of January 2, 2001 Regular Meeting. Barbara Johnson supported.  The motion carried.

 RECOMMENDATION FROM POLICE COMMISSION:  Police Commission wants the Council to consider to increase the compensation for part-time officers from $8.00 to $10.00 per hour and after 600 hours to increase their pay to $10.50.  Further that want the same equipment and uniform as required for full time officers.  Richard Sutherby made a motion to send the recommendation back to the Police Commission for further study on the budget.

 INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE #256:  Ordinance #256 is to adopt Michigan Vehicle Code by Reference.  The purpose allows a community to adopt the current state standard code, used by the BPD without having to publish the whole code.  Barbara Johnson made a motion to introduce Ordinance #256.  Phil Wiles supported.  The motion carried.

INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE #257:  Ordinance #257 is to establish Municipal Civil Violations.  Officials of the City could issue citations for violations with the payment of any penalty to the City first.  Alice Kriesten made and motion to introduce the Ordinance to establish Municipal Civil Infractions.  Barbara Johnson supported.  The motion carried.

 COMPLETED TRAINING INCREASES:  Jim Taylor ($.10) completed a class for Preparation for WWTP and received Certifications and Sergeant Jeff Boehme ($.05) completed a training to Prevent Domestic Violence.  Barbara Johnson made a motion to increase both their hourly salaries by $.05 per hour for the length of the class. Alice Kriesten supported.  The motion carried.

 RURAL ROAD TASK FORCE, STP/CAT. D ROAD PROJECT:  Alice Kriesten made a motion authorize a change in the RRTF project to include an equal project for milling and filling on North Center Street and authorize the City Manager to schedule the project for the next fiscal year.  Phil Wiles supported.  The motion carried.
